The collapse of Fabrice Muamba, the Bolton Wanderers player, during a recent FA-Cup quarter-final, has stunned both fans and fellow footballers. You can read about it here .

Muamba is a 23 year old extremely fit young man, the last person you would expect to drop of cardiac arrest. The good news is Muamba survived and is making a miraculous recovery!  Muamba was in cardiac arrest for 78 minutes. During that time CPR was performed and he was shocked with a defibrillator 15 times! We tell our students in each class that every situation is unique with its own set of unique circumstances. Do the best you can for as long you can. There are stories of people beating the odds every day.

As is often the case following tragic events like this a panel is being formed to study cardiac arrest cases in soccer.

For most organizations the best preparation is regular training in CPR and First Aid and having an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) publicly accessible. If you would like to learn more please contact us 215-886-9280 or jim@cardiaccareinc.com.
